Success for WPS car parks at the British Parking Awards 2018Deansgate North in Manchester, managed by Q-Park, has been awarded a British Parking Award, in the Best New Car Park category. The parking facility is equipped with WPS’ ParkiD parking management system.
Deansgate North is a multi-storey car park which reveals its contemporary design only after you pass through a security door in the arches of a Victorian railway siding. The car park is part of The Embankment, an office development built on what had previously been a surface car park. The 442-space facility not only serves the surrounding office buildings but also visitors to the Manchester Arena, Arndale Shopping Centre and Deansgate shopping area.
Customers can pay with cash, card or contactless payments on foot at WPS ParkAdvance payment machines within the open plan customer foyer. Three separate exits to the public area mean that customers can choose any direction to start their journey, with one exit leading towards the popular Arndale Shopping Centre and Manchester Cathedral, and another directed towards Manchester Arena and Victoria Station. Customers can either take the lift or walk up a winding staircase inside to access any floor. Visitors can view surroundings of the wider area through the glass customer hub adjacent to The Embankment building.
The ParkAdvance terminals at each pedestrian and vehicle entrance and exit provide access to an intercom help point that connects to the 24-hour customer service team at the Q-Park UK head office in Leeds. High security, high-speed shutters control both the vehicle entry and exit points, while each door to the public area is controlled by doornodes, meaning only customers can access the parking decks.
The jury of the BPA commented: “Q-Park Deansgate is a brilliant example of how to create a modern building within a historic setting with care and consideration. This project is proof that car parks can make a positive contribution to bot commercial health of cities and the urban realm. In terms of layout and services, this car park builds on Q-Park’s pedigree for neat design, memorable branding and exemplary customer services.”
The awards proved a double success for WPS. Cheshire West and Chester Council was shortlisted for its use of WPS technology within Intelligent Parking category.
